Welcome to “Ezerwoman’s Blog.” You ask: What is an ezer? Genesis 2:18 explains: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” The Hebrew word for “helper” is ezer. Eve was Adam’s ezer, his “assistant,” “ally,” counselor, and encourager. Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as a “helper” (John 14:16). Wow! It is no insult for a woman to be called a helper!
I am a helper by vocation. It is what I do. But, my identity is something different. My identity is a creation of God and treasure for whom Jesus Christ gave all he had. This identity never changes no matter the circumstances of my life. As a creation of God and treasure of Christ, I am free to be an ezer. I can help build relationships, encourage godly men, and nurture a younger generation. Ahhh… but in what way will I choose to help? Here is where the battle rages. Will I help in a way that pleases me… or the One who made me? Will I trust myself… or the One who died for me?
I live with the consequences of my failures, yet I remain a creation of God and treasure of Christ. When Jesus reaches down into my pit of sin to pull me up and out into the light, I am forgiven and renewed with hope. What will God’s Spirit do through me — in spite of me — for others today?
I am constantly learning. I learn as an ezer for my husband and also for our two sons, two daughter-in-laws, six grandsons, and three granddaughters. Over the years, I have learned while serving as President of National Lutherans For Life (LFL), co-founder of LFL of Iowa, chairman of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod’s Sanctity of Life Task Force, co-founder and president of The Lighthouse Center of Hope, speaker to youth and adults, editor of various publications, writer of Christian resources, partner with Word of Hope, founder of Titus 2 for Life (www.titus2-4life.org), and author of a book (www.ouridentitymatters.com).
Why have I decided to “blog”? Perhaps only to encourage. Perhaps in reading something here, a fellow traveler will be encouraged to persevere on their journey through this foreign land to their heavenly home.
AMEN!

Keep writing, my friend!
I discovered your blog through the LFL 2020 facebook page. I am really enjoying your writings, they are an encouragement and a comfort to me. Thank you so very much. As a parent dealing with a son with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy so much of my focus has become inward, your words help pull me out of my “woe is me” thinking and bring my focus back to God.
Thank you!
Finally got on, great info, much left to read, badly needed in a fallen world!!!
Just wanted to let you know that I received your book. I have started reading it, and will review it at my blog when I finish. I am a slow reader, so bear with me. Thank you.
