Early in June, the White House spent two days addressing LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) topics. The first-ever federal LGBT youth summit is one of Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jenning’s last acts before he leaves his position next month.
“How interesting,” notes Candi Cushman (CitizenLink, 6-7-11), “that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) chose this particular moment to release an important study that tells us a lot about what’s really safe for youth — that is, if one looks at the objective facts, rather than view them through a political filter.”
The CDC reports that gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth are at a greater risk for unhealthy and unsafe behaviors. Students who identify themselves this way are significantly more likely than heterosexual students to engage in high-risk behaviors such as drug and alcohol use, actions that lead to violence, suicidal behavior, and sexual experimentation that can expose them to diseases. [1]
Focus on the Family, CitizenLink, and others have been pointing to such well-documented facts for some time. [2]
Why does the Obama administration seem to be ignoring those facts and, instead, recommending more homosexual advocacy for children in public schools? Does this have anything to do with the influence of Kevin Jennings? (Remember, he’s the one who founded GLSEN, one of the nation’s largest homosexual activist groups.) The CDC, for example, wants to help establish more gay straight alliance clubs in schools. Such alliances were founded by GLSEN. GLSEN encourages students to lobby for gender-diversity materials in schools and events such as a “queer-friendly prom.” [3]
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius promoted GLSEN as a national model for schools, reports Cushman in CitizenLink. Sebelius said that “we know” the risky behaviors warned about in the study actually “are a result of the discrimination.” A CDC review of its own study cited “stigma, discrimination, family disapproval and social rejection.” Cushman notes a problem. “It’s a mystery how they [the CDC] reached those conclusions — because the study itself does not address or measure the causes of risky behavior.”
Children should be protected from harm. Parents are the ones entrusted by God to do that. Cushman also notes that “fact-based studies should not be allowed to be twisted into furthering a political agenda at the expense of our nation’s children.”
Parents need to be aware. They need to work closely with teachers who really want to teach students not one-sided messages from sexual advocacy groups, but math, science, English, and history. Parents who present factual medical and health information to teachers and administrators need to be heard and respected.
Parents need to be heard because they — not the school and not the government — are ultimately responsible for their sons and daughters.

How timely. See this editorial written by a young man recently graduated from Yale Divinity School. http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/06/21/my-take-bible-condemns-a-lot-so-why-focus-on-homosexuality/?hpt=hp_bn8
Apparently, he is convinced that Scripture does not actually say that homosexuality is a sin. It’s just “unnatural.” How convenient that he omitted verses from the Old Testament and only cherry-picked what he needed to write his article.
What do we expect from our society when the schools and universities are soaked through with this type of uneducated, unresearched bias? “He is a Yale Divinity School grad so he must be correct,” is what the masses who read his article would think.
When we have parents, Christian and non-Christian, delegating the care and education of our children to people at schools and day cares, who obviously in the worst case have “agendas” and in the best case are just unschooled in the fact that there are clashing worldviews out there, we have a real problem. Christians are just as guilty of this.
We live in a society that says that both parents NEED to work. A woman needs to earn something to be worth something. But I say, stop this delegating – get the kids back from the wolves. Moms stay home. Drive an older car. Live in a smaller home. Don’t by a huge TV. Stop subscribing to this notion that it is healthy for our kids to be getting their socialization through day cares. Because what are we socializing them to? Are we okay with that? Is that better car worth our children falling away into sin, into a world that loves sin and rejoices in it?
Go a step further from socialization to education. Clearly there is an unhealthy bias in schools these days. The agendas get pushed. A high school in California pulled a brick fundraiser, which would earn them $45k, when a few women bought bricks that were inscribed with Scripture. The bricks with words of Ghandi were okay. Bricks with words of other thoughts and ideas were permitted. But the verses halted the whole thing. In one of the Northeasten states, a high school grad’s commencement address was heavily edited and sensored by his school’s administration because he is a Christian and was going to share some of his thoughts. To people who say that there is no agenda in our nation’s schools, think again! Open your eyes and ears! There is an agenda to silence the Truth. Ironically in a world that preaches tolerance from the pulpits of Hollywood and media, politics and programs, we are inundated with intolerance.
Ordinarily, I would say we need Christians in these types of places to overcome these sinful obstacles. But is a developing mind or blooming character strong enough to handle the repeated attacts on the Truth, the hatred toward believers, and the ever-present intolerance against Christians? Nope. Nope. Nope.
Children are learning and growing. It is our role as Christian parents to protect them as long as we can (not to shelter them and hide them away) from the evil out there. They can still learn about these other worldviews and ideaologies, but they should not be plunged into them before they are ready and given the tools to stand their ground. Why do we send our children into dens of wolves? Why do we give our gifts from God, these blessings, to the swine?
